This is a rare maternity cover opportunity to lead a newly formed, ambitious professional body at a defining moment in its journey.

The College of Sport, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine (CSEM) is in the final stages of unifying two established organisations into one modern, influential College. We are seeking an adaptable Interim Chief Executive to provide leadership, stability and momentum during this critical transition.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the organisation through the final phase of integration, embedding new governance structures and ways of working
  • Oversee the onboarding and support of new senior leaders, ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities
  • Ensure continuity and high-quality delivery across education, membership services and professional standards
  • Provide visible, hands-on leadership during a period of change, supporting staff and building cultural cohesion
  • Maintain clear communication and confidence across a geographically dispersed team
  • Work closely with the Board of Trustees and President to ensure aligned leadership and smooth handover
  • Uphold strong governance, financial stewardship and organisational performance
  • Act as a credible external ambassador for CSEM, building relationships across healthcare, policy and professional networks

This role requires a leader who can operate strategically while remaining close to delivery in a lean organisation. You will bring proven experience of leading through change, strong stakeholder management skills, and a collaborative, people-centred approach. Resilience, diplomacy and the ability to navigate complexity are essential.

CSEM offers a flexible, hybrid working environment with teams based across Edinburgh and Doncaster, and UK-wide engagement. Travel expenses are covered.

We are open to candidates ready to step into a CEO role, with the drive and capability to lead at pace and make a lasting impact. An earlier start or phased handover is welcomed to support continuity.
