Contract: Permanent | 35 hours per week

We are recruiting a Governance Manager for an established UK membership organisation operating within a regulated professional environment.

This is a high-profile role working closely with the organisation’s senior leadership and governing bodies. You will take ownership of governance processes, help ensure robust and effective decision-making, and strengthen the systems, reporting and stakeholder relationships that support the organisation’s strategic direction.

The role

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading and continually improving governance processes, ensuring they meet legal, regulatory and best-practice standards.
  • Supporting the effective operation of the Board, Council and key committees.
  • Coordinating governance cycles, including appointments, elections and annual member meetings.
  • Developing and monitoring organisational KPIs and strategic reporting frameworks.
  • Supporting business and strategic planning, including progress monitoring and reporting.
  • Building strong relationships with trustees, committee members, senior stakeholders and colleagues across the organisation.
  • Developing a consistent organisation-wide approach to stakeholder engagement.
  • Overseeing the preparation and quality of governance papers, agendas and supporting documentation.
  • Managing governance-related budgets and resources.
  • Line managing and developing an Executive Assistant.

About you

We are looking for someone with strong governance experience gained within a membership body, professional association, charity or similar organisation.

You will ideally bring:

  • Experience supporting Boards, Councils, trustees or committees at a senior level.
  • Practical knowledge of governance and relevant charity/regulatory requirements.
  • Experience managing elections, appointments or comparable governance processes.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Experience developing KPIs, reporting frameworks, processes or procedures.
  • Excellent organisation, written communication and attention to detail.
  • Confidence working with senior leaders and handling sensitive or confidential information.

This would suit an experienced governance professional who enjoys combining hands-on governance delivery with strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement and organisational improvement.
