This role involves managing HR practices and processes across a UK-wide professional membership organisation and trade union with a staff team of 86, including office-based and remote workers.

Reporting to the Director of People and Organisation Development, the HR Manager will oversee the full employee life cycle, including recruitment, retention, employee relations, talent management, and learning and development. You will provide professional advice on HR matters, ensuring compliance with employment law and organisational policies. The role also includes managing HR systems and processes, supporting managers with employee issues, and contributing to organisational change initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Line management of HR staff
  • Delivering a proactive HR service to managers and employees
  • Supporting the implementation of the organisation’s People Strategy
  • Creating and reviewing HR policies and procedures
  • Overseeing internal employment relations and Occupational Health services
  • Managing payroll actions in collaboration with the Finance team
  • Ensuring compliance with Data Protection legislation

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Member of the CIPD or equivalent experience
  • Strong generalist HR experience, including recruitment, performance management, and employee relations
  • Proficiency in employment law and HR best practices
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable:

  • Experience in a unionised or professional organisation environment
